Teyonah Parris is the latest to join the growing cast of Running, the Apple Original Films sports drama from director Gavin O’Connor. She joins Brian Tyree Henry, Spike Fearn, Rhea Seehorn, and Andrew Schulz in the film.
Based on an original story by O’Connor and Bill Dubuque (Ozark, The Accountant), who also penned the script, Running follows a homeless high school track prodigy chasing greatness while trying to outrun his past and find a sense of family. Character details for Parris and Henry are being kept under wraps.
The film is a co-production between Makeready and Waffle Iron Entertainment, with Nike also on board as a producing partner, a fitting collaborator for a story rooted in track and athletic ambition.
The project marks a reunion between Parris and Apple, as she is also set to star in Apple Original Films’ upcoming live-action adventure Matchbox the Movie, inspired by Mattel’s die-cast toy vehicle line, opposite John Cena and Jessica Biel. That film arrives October 9.
Parris is coming off a busy stretch that includes They Cloned Tyrone opposite John Boyega and Jamie Foxx, The Marvels alongside Brie Larson and Iman Vellani, and Netflix dark comedy series No Good Deed. She originated the adult role of Monica Rambeau in the Emmy-winning WandaVision before bringing the character to the big screen.
Parris is repped by CAA and Fox Rothschild.
