Peacock’s Crystal Lake, a prequel series set in the world of Friday the 13th, has tapped William Catlett for a major role opposite Linda Cardellini.
Crystal Lake comes from creator Brad Caleb Kane (It: Welcome to Derry), who also serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. The project marks one of A24’s first forays into major IP-driven television, with additional executive producers including Victor Miller (screenwriter of the original 1980 film), his copyright attorney Marc Toberoff, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian, Stuart Manashil, and Tyson Bidner.
Catlett will portray Levon Brooks though further character details and overall plot information remain tightly under wraps. Cardellini will take on the role of Pamela Voorhees, the grieving mother of Jason Voorhees—one of horror’s most enduring villains.
This project is the first Friday the 13th-affiliated series since the syndicated Friday the 13th: The Series, which ran from 1987 to 1990. It also follows the 2009 film reboot of the original story. The original 1980 film, directed by Sean S. Cunningham, was made for just $550,000 and grossed nearly $60 million, igniting a franchise that has grown to include 12 films, novels, comics, video games, and a wealth of iconic horror merchandise.
Catlett’s resume includes credits like Netflix’s Forever and True Story, The CW’s Black Lightning, and Apple TV+’s Constellation and The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey. His film work spans titles like A Thousand and One, Never Let Go opposite Halle Berry, Universal’s Abigail, and Charm City Kings. He is represented by IAG, Anonymous Content, and Granderson Des Rochers.
Crystal Lake was first announced in 2022, and though details remain largely under wraps, it promises to explore Pamela Voorhees’ world prior to the events of the first film—expanding the mythos of the Friday the 13th franchise and offering a fresh, serialized take on one of horror’s most recognizable legacies.
