Tubi Launches Stubios to Empower Aspiring Filmmakers with Mentorship from Issa Rae

Tubi, the ad-supported streaming service owned by Fox Corporation, has unveiled Stubios, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering aspiring filmmakers and their fan communities. This innovative studio venture not only opens doors for diverse voices in Hollywood but also revolutionizes the traditional content creation process by giving viewers a direct say in what gets produced.

Stubios represents a significant shift in the entertainment landscape by democratizing the production process. Creatives accepted into the Stubios program, known as Stubio runners, have the unique opportunity to engage their fans throughout the entire creative journey. From casting decisions to key artwork, fans can provide input, making them active participants in bringing their favorite stories to life.

When projects go live, fans can show their support by watching the content and once viewership surpasses a threshold, the Stubio runners will be automatically greenlit for their next project, creating a flywheel of success to build a sustainable career.

One of the key features of Stubios is mentorship from industry veteran Issa Rae, co-founder of ColorCreative. Rae will guide Stubio runners through script development and production processes, enhancing their chances of success in the industry. Stubio runners will receive script support, one-on-one mentor calls with Issa and creative production support from ColorCreative. Resulting films and series created from the program will be distributed and promoted on Tubi.

“I am deeply passionate about creating pathways to sustainable careers into Hollywood for creatives of diverse backgrounds,” shared Issa Rae, co-founder of ColorCreative. “Stubios is a bold step towards inclusivity and representation in entertainment.”

Another crucial key features of Stubios is its inclusivity. Creatives from varied backgrounds and experience levels are encouraged to apply, with no prior filmmaking experience required.

Anjali Sud, CEO of Tubi, emphasized Tubi’s commitment to connecting with younger and diverse audiences through Stubios. Sud highlighted Tubi’s vast library of content and the valuable insights gained from viewer preferences, emphasizing Stubios as a platform to elevate stories that might not otherwise receive backing in Hollywood.

Tubi’s Stubios not only focuses on fostering new talent but also serves as a platform for advertisers to connect with younger and diverse audiences. With nearly 30% of Tubi viewers unreachable on other ad-supported video-on-demand platforms, Stubios presents a unique opportunity for brands to engage with a highly sought-after demographic.

The launch of Stubios coincides with the announcement of its first creative cohort, including Lady London, a rapper and songwriter known for her viral freestyles. Lady London’s journey as a Stubio runner will be documented in a docuseries exploring her life and music-making process, providing an intimate look at the creative journey.

For aspiring filmmakers and fans eager to be part of this revolutionary initiative, applications for the next cohort of Stubio runners are now open. Stubios represents a transformative approach to storytelling, where creativity meets community engagement in shaping the future of entertainment.
